2018 Week 1: Accountability Update

2018 Week 1: Accountability Update

I’m doing a weekly set of posts where I outline what things I did this week to get closer to achieving all my goals this year & 10X my life. Read my post, “I’m Going to Become a Millionaire in 2018” to find out WHY I’m doing this.

The first week of 2018 was challenging, but good. I caught a minor cold, which reduced my energy for a couple days, but I’m back on my feet & feeling great! I also had a few setbacks emotionally with trying to get out of my old patterns & embrace the new person I have to reinvent myself as to achieve my goals. But I’m feeling good about things again, & I really feel like 2018 is going to be MY YEAR.

Here’s what I did in Week 1 to 10x my life::
  1. Officially began the 52 Weeks of Momentum course, which is by Medium.com writer Ben Hardy!
  2. Made + released four videos for my YouTube channel (Three pet vlogs & an episode of The Ashlee Craft Show)
  3. Did my morning routine EVERY SINGLE DAY, which saved me more than an hour of time during the week. I used this additional time to eat breakfast at home instead of at work, which increased my peace of mind exponentially.
  4. Practiced a song (Archer’s Arrows by Crowded House) on keyboards & guitar that I’m going to record a cover of for YouTube in the near future.
  5. Made three slideshows to be used as videos in my first-ever Udemy Course, which will be based on my book 101 Ways to Love Yourself.
  6. Almost done sewing letters onto a custom jean jacket that I’m going to sell in my online store!
  7. Signed up for the website “If This Then That” (ifttt.com) & set up two tasks, which will automate some of my marketing when I publish new videos & posts, therefore saving me time on low-level but important marketing tasks. It seems amazing & it connects with so many websites to cross-communicate between them.
  8. Published paperback copy of my newest book, Blobfish
  9. Released three new designs of t-shirts (“Bitcoins are Stealing Your Sleep”, “Not Your Accountant”, & “Stay Wild Child”), as well as phone cases & posters featuring the designs, on my online shop
  10. Downloaded 15 new fonts to use in my design work from Google Fonts
  11. Did decently on my health-related & well on my happiness goals
  12. Finished reading “Modern Pioneering” by Georgia Pellegrini; began reading “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiosaki & “Chicken Soup for the Soul: Think Positive for Kids”
  13. Decided what I am re-naming my company as so I can expand its reach
  14. Researched axolotls, which I am considering getting as my next pet soon.

Holiday Gift Ideas for Funky & Fasctinating People with gifts in background

  • For the 80’s & 90’s Nostalgic: Pens with Multiple Colors of Ink or Scratch & Sniff Stickers. I remember these from my childhood in the 90’s, & they were awesome. My dad got me one. I loved it because I could choose from tons of colors of ink to write with without having to switch pens. Scratch & sniff stickers are another fun thing I remember from my childhood. I was in LOVE with these. They make life more fun. Both these things do, & we could all use a little more of that.

  • For the Food & Art Lover: Awesome Food-Themed Posters. If you love cooking or food (or love posters like this that show everything laid out & organized) these posters would be awesome. The spaghetti one is my favorite. I own one which is a little bit different & it is so cool. The one I have is sadly not available anymore, but this is pretty close & just as awesome. You can also get one with spices, fruits, or vegetables, all laid out & organized in a very satisfying way.

    • For Sea Animal Fans: Ocean Animals Rubber Stamp Set, Sea Turtle Novelty Socks, or Plastic Sea Animal Assortment. These are all so cute. With the rubber stamps, the octopus, the whale, & the shark are especially cute (but the octopus is the best). Novelty socks are ALWAYS a good idea, & always fun. So are plastic sea animals. You can just put them all over your house & feel closer to the ocean when you look at them.
  • For the Retro-Techie/Music Lover: Record Player or Stylophone Synth. Records are getting popular again, & for a good reason. They can have a warmer & more charming sound than digitized music. If you want to explore the beauty of vinyl without breaking your budget, this record player might be the perfect thing. This retro synth looks retro & really cool, so if your retro techie likes making music, they’d probably find this stylophone awesome.

  • For the Smartphone Photographer: Smartphone Camera Clip On Lens Set or Disposable Cameras. These clip-on lenses are supposed to be really cool. This set comes with a fish eye, wide angle, & macro lens that clips right on to your phone. If you really love taking photos with your phone, these might be great to have. ALTERNATIVE: Buy them a real camera with real film (like these inexpensive disposable ones), & let them experiment with that to get a different perspective on photography. Disposable cameras are still fun. I just bought myself some of these.

  • For the Kawaii-Food Fan: Cute Salt & Pepper Shakers or a Plush Smiling Bread. Like these adorable smiley mushroom ones! I have several sets of adorable owl salt & pepper shakers, which I don’t use for salt & pepper, but as sculptures for the shelf in my room. Alternatively, a cute plush kawaii bread!

  • For the Book Lover in Your Life: BOOKS. Book lovers always need more. Poetry lovers should try Bob Dylan’s amazing beat-poetry Tarantula, imaginative & playful free-thinkers will enjoy Keri Smith’s How to Be an Explorer of the World, & people who want to make 2017 their best year yet will want to check out my newest book, 101 Ways to Love Yourself: How to Feel Better, Be Happier, & Start Living a Super-Awesome Life Now, or Jen Sincero’s excellent You are a Badass.

  • For the health-food enthusiast: Vegetable Spiralizer or Water Kefir Granules. These are supposed to be really great for making veggie pasta out of things like zucchini. It sounds like a great idea if you want a easy way to add more vegetables to your diet, or if you’re interested in eating more veggies & less grains. Alternatively, if your health-food lover loves kefir, here are some water kefir grains. Water kefir is supposed to have a slight carbonation like soda. The best benefit of it is the probiotics in it!

  • For the sloth lover in your life: A Little Book of Sloth or a Plush Sloth. This is one of the best, most adorable animal books ever to be made. IT IS FILLED WITH BABY SLOTHS. Baby rescue sloths at the Sloth Sanctuary in Costa Rico. Baby sloths hugging each other. Or, this adorable fluffy sloth plush. I have this plush sloth & it’s so huggable. I also have the very adorable, very soft tiny Hug a Sloth Kit sloth. All these are awesome.

  • For the music/tea enthusiast: Guitar Shaped Tea Infuser &/or Music Note Mug. This guitar-shaped tea infuser looks so darn cool. You can make rockin’ tea like this orchid vanilla one with this rockin’ infuser. Preferably while listening to some rockin’ music. Then you can drink it out of this fun music note mug.

  • For your favorite writer: An Awesome Novelty Notebook. These notebooks have real personality, & awesome themes like Pantone, funky flamingos, or llamas wearing scarves don’t even scratch the surface of the awesome journals out there.

  • For Lovers of Cute Cats: Pusheen the Cat Plush. Pusheen is one of my favorite things on the internet. These are just a few of the cute Pusheen plush you can buy. Pusheen with a cupcake, Sherlock Holmes Pusheen, Pusheen with a cookie.

  • For People Who Love Funky Food Things: Plush Doughnut or Dinosaur-Shaped Cookie Cutters. Doughnut-themed things are always awesome. It would look so cool to have a bunch of these doughnut cushions casually sitting on your sofa or your bed. Also, making dinosaur-shaped cookies would be so awesome. Dinosaurs are one of the most funky & wonderful things. Combine that with cookies, & you’ve got a winner.

  • For People Who Love All Things Magical: Moon Lamp, Salt Lamp Candle Holder, or Amethyst Chunks. Having a cool, glowing moon in your room every night would be the best thing ever. It looks very cool & realistic. Salt lamps are also awesome. I own one a lot like the one in the picture. It’s really beautiful, especially with the light of a flickering candle inside. Amethyst chunks are also awesome. While I don’t own the ones pictured, I do own lots of other amethyst, which is one of my favorite gemstones.

  • For the Owl Lover in Your Life: Owls, Owls, & More Owls. Owls are my favorite thing in the world. My whole house is decorated with various owl-themed items. Owl pillows (or pillow cover like the one featured) are always fun I own the owl pillow cover featured. It’s made out of a linen-type material & fits over a normal sized throw pillow. The owl plush in the middle is the fluffiest thing ever & is so adorable. I own one & I love it. Last,

Shipwrecked – Second Edition Released!

I am proud to announce the release of the second edition of my 2013 book Shipwrecked under my publishing company Freedom Meadow Media! Out of all the books I’ve written so far, it is definitely my best-selling one, which is why it is one of the first ones I have republished with my new company.

A little history on the book itself : in 2012, I was very very bored, so I was looking for some sort of writing challenge to keep myself busy with. I heard about the 3 Day Novel contest. It wasn’t around the time that the competition actually happens, but all the same, I was psyched by the idea of it. Writing 50,000 words in three days? Could I do that? With a very vague story idea in mind – a teenage girl goes on a boat, the boat sinks, & she has to survive on some random island – was all the plot I had when I began writing it.

Over the next three days, things were pretty crazy, to say the least. The first day, I think I only ended up writing about 11,000 words. I can’t remember exactly how many I did on the second day, but on the third day, I believe I wrote about 20,000+ words. By midnight on the third day, I’d written about 47,000 words and decided just to consider my novel done. It’s crazy even now, looking back on it, & thinking “Damn, I really did write a WHOLE NOVEL of about 50,000 words in THREE DAYS.” But I did, & Shipwrecked was the result of it.

It wasn’t until 2013 when I actually got around to publishing it. This was due to several factors. (1) Some parts of the story were poorly written or incomplete scenes. (2) The ending of the book involved, for some reason, criminals who wanted to kill the main character (why did there need to be criminals???). (3) The book was absolutely CHOCK FULL of spelling & grammatical errors. This took forever to straighten out. (4) This was back in the good-old days where I had to make my dad read & edit my books before I published them. Because he had a full-time job, he didn’t always have much time to edit my books. He would write the edits down on an index card & hand them to me. Now, I use much more efficient methods so there’s less delay between when I finish writing a book & when I get to publish it.

Fast forward to now, when I started my company & wanted to republish Shipwrecked. When I set out to republish it, I assumed that editing it would be relatively straight-forward. My current editing method involves making my computer read my book out loud to be, which makes it easier to hear where the errors are. Things had gone smoothly editing & republishing A Thousand Cranes, Volume 1 this way.

With Shipwrecked, it was an entirely different story. The book was sadly filled with many, many errors – grammatical errors, spelling errors, missing punctuation, continuity errors, as well as sentences & things which, upon reading them three years later, just sound lame. I probably changed or fixed an estimated two to three hundred such things throughout the course of the book (some of these were adding a sentence here or there to improve things, but still). I honestly wasn’t aware that there were so many things wrong with it, so I’m sorry if any of you read it & these errors took away from the story. Let me tell you this now : all the errors I could find in the book have been fixed, and this is an entirely new edition. I’ve never released a second edition of any of my books before, but I felt like the changes I made to this book warranted a clean slate & a new edition.

Here is the brand-new edition, with a brand-new (& much improved) description. I hope that if you read the book, you let me know what you think of it, preferably on either Amazon or Twitter.

Shipwrecked by Ashlee Craft - CoverThe imaginative 16-year-old Tami Franks is thrilled to finally be going on her dream adventure of a three-day boat trip. She read Treasure Island several years ago, and ever since then, she’s spent her time reading survival guides, climbing trees, and swimming in the neighborhood pool in preparation for the adventures she might go on one day. When her parents finally agree to let her go on a trip with their charter captain friend, she is expecting the adventure of a lifetime. Tami gets much more than she bargains for when the boat sinks in the middle of the night, killing the captain and leaving her stranded in the middle of the ocean. She manages to swim to a nearby but uncharted island, where she must put her survival skills to use in order to have a chance at seeing her family again and saving her own life. Unsure of when, or if, she will be rescued, she must use her imagination, courage, and belief in herself in order to triumph.
