One day, the Sun was sitting in the sky, smiling down at the world. The sky was blue and there were no clouds in sight. “It is such a beautiful day.” The Sun remarked this to himself as he looked at the world below him. He could see people enjoying the nice weather and flowers dancing in the wind.
All of a sudden, the Sun saw two clouds in the distance. The clouds slowly got closer and closer. Soon, they were next to the Sun. “Hello.” Said the Sun. “How can I help you?” The two clouds looked at him and replied, “We kindly ask you to move out of the way so we can make it rain.”
The Sun’s face fell when he heard this. Sadly, he said, “Why does it have to rain? Today is such a nice, bright day. The people and flowers below us seem to be enjoying my sunlight very much. They are smiling and playing outdoors. If you make rain, they will go inside and they will frown.” The clouds replied, “We know it’s a beautiful day and that people like when the sun shines. We know you enjoy shining too, but sometimes it has to rain. Sunlight and rain are both important to the earth.”
